It is great news to be able to count on Gustavo Dudamel for this 9th season, and even more so on finding him at the head of one of the finest orchestras in the world, the London Symphony Orchestra.
Dudamel introduces classical music to new audiences and publics wherever he goes, and he is currently the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, He has conducted more than 30 operas at such important venues as the Los Angeles Opera, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Staatsopers in Vienna and Berlin, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Formed in 1904, the LSO was one of the first orchestras to be founded by its own musicians, and since then countless generations have kept up its reputation for impeccable quality and an inspiring repertoire.
The Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka, who won international fame with her performance in Rossini's Moïse et Pharaon at the Salzburg Festival in 2009, will be the guest voice in Scheherazade, the collection of tales and poems set to music by Maurice Ravel.
