Miquel Bernat is a contemporary percussionist with an extensive career. He has appeared at numerous festivals and concert halls, including the Paris Opera, the Cité de la Musique, the Strasbourg Music Festival, the Montpelier Radio France Festival, the Barbican Centre in London, the Auditorio Teresa Carreño in Caracas, the Darwin Guitar Festival, the Next Wave Festival in Brooklyn, the Helsinki Festival and the Parco de la Música in Rome. He has played with orchestras such as the Barcelona and National Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as with contemporary music ensembles such as Ictus, the Ictus Piano and Percussion Quartet, Trio Allures and Duo Contemporain.
His numerous collaborations as a soloist include the premieres of new works, for example the Concerto for Marimba and 15 Instruments by David del Puerto, Campos Magnéticos by Cesar Camarero, Night and Chalan by Mauricio Sotelo and the Concerto for Percussion by Joan Guinjoan. He has also performed with several dance ensembles, including ROSAS, the company formed by choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker.
Particular mention should also be made of the Drumming Grupo de Percussão, which he founded. It has become one of the world's leading percussion ensembles, inimitably expanding the interactions between music and other art forms.
