With a full house at the Palau de la Música Catalana and a strong presence of authorities, the audience of the night warmly welcomed the great maestro Zubin Mehta with a standing ovation. With slow but determined steps, the conductor appeared on the stage where the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra was already positioned. A much-anticipated tandem that marked a night to remember.
The impeccable symphonies 2 & 4 by Johannes Brahms became the soundtrack of a concert filled with demands and delicacy. Two magnificent pieces in which Mehta demonstrated why he has always been a devout follower of the German composer and his synergy with one of the best orchestras in today's scene. As an encore, the Hungarian Dances No. 5 by Brahms were performed.
The Palau de la Música had the privilege of enjoying a unique evening with a dedicated audience that couldn't stop applauding Maestro Zubin Mehta, who, at the age of 87, made it clear that he has no intention of retiring soon.
